The Go/No-Go task activates the right inferior frontal gyrus and the subthalamic nucleus, structures involved in stopping actions. False alarms (pressing during No-Go) are elevated in ADHD, substance use disorders, and frontal lobe damage.
What does the Go/No-Go Test test measure?
The Go/No-Go test requires you to press for Go stimuli and withhold your response for No-Go stimuli. With 80% Go trials, a habitual "press" tendency builds up - creating the inhibitory challenge. Response inhibition (stopping a prepared action) is a core executive function and a clinical marker for impulsivity disorders.
How to improve your Go/No-Go Test score
- โ Do not try to click as fast as possible - the primary goal is accuracy, not speed.
- โ Before each stimulus, mentally prime yourself to "hold back."
- โ Take the test when well-rested - inhibitory control is one of the first functions to degrade with sleep loss.
