🧩 ADHD Basics

What are the signs of ADHD in adults?

Adult ADHD looks very different from the hyperactive child stereotype. The most common presentation in adults is primarily inattentive β€” chronic difficulty sustaining attention, poor working memory, time blindness, and disorganisation β€” without visible hyperactivity.

DomainCommon adult ADHD signs
AttentionStarting tasks but not finishing, losing train of thought mid-sentence, missing details, hyperfocusing on interesting things while unable to start boring-but-important ones
Working memoryForgetting why you walked into a room, losing items constantly, missing appointments, difficulty holding multi-step instructions in mind
Time managementChronically late, misjudging how long tasks take, losing track of time, difficulty transitioning between activities
OrganisationDifficulty prioritising, procrastinating on unstructured tasks, desk and digital clutter, missed deadlines
Emotional regulationStrong emotional reactions, low frustration tolerance, difficulty calming down, rejection-sensitive dysphoria
Impulse controlInterrupting others, making quick decisions without thinking, changing plans impulsively

Important: ADHD is not laziness or low intelligence. Many people with ADHD are highly intelligent and develop sophisticated coping strategies that mask symptoms until adult demands exceed their compensatory abilities. This is why many are diagnosed in their 30s or 40s after a major life change.

The Attention & Focus test is based on the Continuous Performance Test paradigm used in ADHD evaluation. It won't diagnose ADHD, but it gives you an objective measure of sustained attention and impulse control to bring to a clinical conversation.
